 FAQs

  • B Corps are for-profit companies that have been verified as meeting B Lab Standards for social and environmental business practices. B Corps must also make a legal commitment to be accountable to all stakeholders (like workers, customers, and the planet) not just shareholders; and demonstrate transparency by sharing information publicly.

By certifying as B Corp, a business becomes part of a community of over 10,000 companies across the world working together for change, and taking part in collective action to advocate for a shared goal of a global economy that benefits people and the planet.

  • B Corp Month is an annual, global campaign designed to increase awareness about B Corps and how they’re different from other businesses. Every March, B Lab and Sistema B (the nonprofit network that certifies companies as B Corps) join together with a global community of over 10,000 B Corps to celebrate our commitment and collective impact.

  • You can find and support B Corp businesses in your community by searching our directory.

Workers and leaders at companies can take the B Impact self-assessment (for free!) to see how your business compares, and start the journey to becoming a B Corp.

And if you use social media, search the hashtag #BCorpMonth to find and share stories about responsible, sustainable businesses and inspire others to join in.

  • Individual choices absolutely matter. (See the previous question for some ideas, if you’re not sure where to start.)

But we are strongest when we act collectively. So, that’s why B Lab works to build a movement of B Corps, strengthened by partnerships.

So, when you take an action, consider sharing it and encouraging others to join you. Bring a friend with you to a B Corp store or event. Talk to your boss about how you can use the B Impact Assessment to start improving your company’s environmental impact. Better yet, get your colleagues involved, too. Together, we can shift behaviors, norms, and even systems.

  • Yes. This is part of what makes B Corp Certification different: it’s not just about what you say, it’s about what you do. We assess companies’ actions when it comes to how they treat their stakeholders, for example their workers, communities, customers, and the environment.
